On January 16, 2026, World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) debuted in Hong Kong for the first time. "WAIC UP! 2026" Global Year-End Gala was successfully held at Hong Kong Science Park. When deeply discussing industrialization prospects of quantum computing, Wang Bingfeng analyzed current main technical routes (superconducting, ion trap, neutral atom, photonic, CMOS, etc.) from the perspective of industrial practice. He pointed out that quantum computing technology has not yet converged. Although superconducting route attracts much attention and has made significant progress, it still faces challenges related to engineering, cooling systems, wiring, qubit lifespan, noise, and I/O bottlenecks; while silicon-based CMOS and other technologies based on semiconductor industry accumulation may have underestimated scalability potential due to utilization of existing accumulations in semiconductor industry. But each technical route has a clear exploration timetable and clear development path, has completed technical verification within a certain range, and realized industrial landing exploration in scenarios such as molecular and biological system simulation, material science, weather forecasting, and financial applications. With logical qubit numbers increasing and breaking thresholds, quantum computing may provide superior computing power and value space in solving problems that classic computing cannot handle in the future. This is very worth expecting.
He further emphasized that from the perspective of promoting commercial landing development of new technologies, we should break through the inherent framework of "building general Quantum Computer," turning to focus on "what practical problems Quantum Computing solves." Especially now, the Hybrid of accelerated computing and quantum computing will also accelerate development of overall computing capabilities. Perhaps general, fault-tolerant quantum computers still need a long time for technical verification and breakthroughs, but in the process of constant exploration, we will discover more unknown directions and possibilities.
